Day 1: Agadir – Taroundant – Taliouine
In the morning we depart from Agadir towards the town Tarundant. It is the oldest royal city with its own original character and unknown to mass tourism. You imagine yourself back in the Middle Ages, it is an oasis of calm. Within the 16th century city walls you will find the palace of the Pacha of Tarundant. Since 2006 the town is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. We leave Taroundant and in the afternoon we will arrive at the old Berber village Taliouine, located in the Anti Atlas Mountains. This town has a rich history and has a beautiful Kasbah, wich unfortunately is slowly crumbling. Taliouine is known for the production of saffron, about 7.000 pounds of saffron per year. Here we have our dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Taliouine – Taznakt – Foum Zguid – Erg Chegaga
After a traditional breakfast we continue our journey towards the town of Taznakt, to finally arrive in Foum Zguid. Taznakt was an important point for the caravan routes and is the center for carpet weaving. Of course we will visit a cooperative of Berber carpets. The rugs are made by Berber women from the surrounding Berber villages. In the afternoon we arrive at Erg Chegaga, one of the two main dunes of the Sahara desert, for a memorable experience. We have dinner and overnight in a nomad tent. In the evening traditional Sahrawi music will be played.
Day 3: Erg Chegaga – M’hamid – Zagora – Ouarzazate
In the morning we arrive in M’hamid, ‘the gate of the desert’, with a short camel ride in the desert. Lunch can be used in Zagora and there will be a visit to the Qur’anic library Tamagroute. We continue our route through Agdez towards the Valley of the Draa. There we will have dinner and overnight stay in a Riad of the one of the oldest Kasbahs of the valley, the Kasbah of Tamnougalt.
